NFL Fantasy football: Michael Vick?s value moving up

He?s back ? well, he?s back with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Michael Vick and the team have agreed on a restructured deal that will keep the veteran quarterback in kelly green and white for at least the 2013 season. The move makes sense from a football perspective, as Vick is a much better fit for the offense of new coach Chip Kelly than Nick Foles.

It also helps Vick?s value from a fantasy perspective, at least to a point.

Vick, the top-scoring fantasy quarterback in 2010, has seen a decline in production in each of the last two years. He finished 11th in points at the position (behind even Mark Sanchez) in 2011 and dropped all the way to 27th during an injury-plagued 2012 campaign.

Therein lies the real issue with Vick ? his lack of durability.

The Virginia Tech product hasn?t started a full 16 games since 2006, and has missed at least three games in each of the last three seasons. So while the statistical upside for a quarterback in Kelly?s offense is monstrous, I can?t advise owners to draft Vick as more than a No. 2 quarterback.

Remember, the position will be deeper than it?s ever been heading into the 2013 season ? that means Vick can be drafted at some point in the middle rounds as a high-risk, high-reward reserve and matchup-based starter.
