Introduction To Criminal Justice Gives An Overview Of Many Legal Careers

Many students take their freshmen year at a college or university to explore the options that are available to them. Different subjects also are provided in introductory courses that might better enable students to decide on a future career, a major area of study. One introductory course that students might consider is Introduction to Criminal Justice.
In Introduction to Criminal Justice, students might learn more about careers as police officers, judges or attorneys. They might find out also about the roles of court reporters, paralegals and forensic psychologists and scientists. These different perspectives might help students come to their own understanding. For example, some people believe that people are naturally good or evil. Others believe people are influenced by their surroundings. Some people might also believe that people commit crimes for a variety of reasons.

Wilson, a former Harvard University professor, might also be discussed as part of Introduction to Criminal Justice courses. Wilson expressed many of his beliefs about crime in writing and reportedly felt that criminals don?t have inhibitions against misconduct, that they?re more willing than others to take chances and that, in a sense, they view breaking the law as thrilling and exciting.
Wilson?s criminal justice writings reportedly included mention of his belief in tough crime sanctions, and they were particularly popular during the 1970s, when Ronald Reagan was governor of a then-conservative California. Wilson studied areas such as urban renewal and marital commitment, according to an article in the Los Angeles Times. His work led to criminal justice efforts such as community policing, and he earned a Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Introduction to Criminal Justice students might learn about the different types of crimes. At least one Introduction to Criminal Justice textbook addresses how the criminal justice system?s overcrowding affects treatment programs. Introduction to Criminal Justice students might also learn about the recidivism, or return, rates of offenders.
