At 19, Nick Jonas is a musical-theater vet, having already starred in "Hairspray," "A Christmas Carol," "Les Misérables," "Beauty and the Beast" and "Annie Get Your Gun." So when fans heard he'd take over as the lead in the Broadway revival of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," it seemed like a natural fit for the pop star.

"It's really exciting. This is a show I love. I love the movie from the '60s," he told MTV News, before revealing it was his older brother who convinced him he was born to play the role of J. Pierpont Finch. "The opportunity came about basically [when] my brother Kevin went and saw the show on a Sunday and then flew to L.A. and was staying with me at my place on that Monday and he said, 'You have to see that show, you have to be in it one day,' " he recalled. "I knew there was an offer in place to do the role... so I said, 'OK, cool.'

"I sent an email and said, 'Hey, is this offer still there?' and they're like, 'Absolutely!' " he continued. "I flew out to New York and saw the show, loved it, had so many thoughts and ideas about what I could do with the character and signed on to the do the show."

Jonas will pick up where "Harry Potter" star Daniel Radcliffe and "Glee" actor Darren Criss left off. He'll take the stage officially in the role on January 24. "I'm so thrilled to be making my return to Broadway and have it be this show specifically, which is just one that my fans will connect with. And hopefully people that aren't as familiar with my work in the past will come out and make it their first experience," he said of the nearly six-month run, which wraps up July 1.

"This is a great show, and it's interesting, because it's one of the only roles that a young man can really carry the whole show and be the lead of a show, which is a thrill for me," he explained. "And I'm so honored Beau Bridges has just signed on [as J.B. Biggley], so the cast is amazing, and I'm just honored to be a part of it."

Accepting the job also means Jonas will relocate back to his native East Coast. "I'm preparing by sort of packing up my L.A. place and getting all my stuff over here," he said. "And I found my place in the city, which is fun, and probably late December getting in there and getting comfortable."
