Therapy programs at the Center reach out to disabled and disadvantaged kid?s in Atlantic City?s poor neighborhoods, offering them riding lessons through weekly programs and summer camps.? Kids also learn to work with the horses, offering them valuable experience and giving them an opportunity for hands-on training and an occupational therapy experience unlike any other.? The organization receives no government funding, and in recent years board members had decided to allow non-disabled riders to use the facility ? a decision which many claim brought about severe financial difficulties for the entire organization.? The farm was sold in July and the facility is slated to be closed in early September.
For patients with chronic back and neck pain, muscle spasms, car accident or athletic/sports injuries, and a variety of other medical conditions, physical therapy is an excellent tool for recovery.? Physical therapy programs don?t require medication and are an excellent way to empower patients and teach them to take care of their injuries during recovery.
It?s a shame that the Atlantic Riding Center for Health needs to close after so many years of community service, but many patients can continue to receive physical therapy care coverage through a health insurance provider at another facility.? It?s important not to neglect rehabilitation after an injury, and hopefully a new option will be made available for Atlantic City-area residents who have spent summers at the Atlantic Riding Center for health.
