SACRAMENTO, CA - The NBA confirmed team owners will not make a decision this week whether Seattle or Sacramento investor groups will be chosen as the new owners of the Sacramento Kings.
League Commissioner David Stern had previously hinted the complex situation may not be voted on at the NBA Board of Governors meetings Thursday and Friday.
Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson said he is taking the decision by the board of governors not to vote on the team at face value.
"I cannot read the tea leaves. What it does say is the NBA has not had a situation like this before? and they want to get it right," Johnson said. "Seattle's not in the driver's seat, that's just the bottom line."
Johnson and a group of others attended Mitch Richmond's fundraiser at a Midtown restaurant Low Brau for his charity Rock Life Tuesday night. At the fundraiser,?Richmond, a potential investor to bid for the Kings, said Sacramento has given the NBA's owners a lot to digest.
While Sacramento's investment group hasn't confirmed they will match Hansen's increased offer, they may not need to, but Johnson said his group is prepared to do whatever the league asks of them.
