Manchester Utd stumbles in 1-1 tie vs Southampton

LONDON (AP) — Manchester United stumbled again under new manager David Moyes, allowing a late equalizer against Southampton, and Arsenal maintained its Premier League lead with a 4-1 rout of Norwich.

Adam Lallana scored on a glancing header in the 89th minute, giving Southampton a 1-1 tie at defending champion United.

Robin van Persie had scored in the 26th, pouncing on a rebound after Wayne Rooney's shot was blocked. Rooney and Van Persie hit the crossbar for eighth-place United (3-3-2), which is eight points behind Arsenal.

"We wanted to get a bit of momentum going today, but we didn't get it," said Moyes, who took over from Alex Ferguson last summer.

Arsenal (6-1-1) extended its unbeaten streak to 12 in all competitions as Mesut Ozil scored twice against visiting Norwich and Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey had one goal each.

Chelsea (5-1-2) is two points back in second following a 4-1 victory over Cardiff at Stamford Bridge. Samuel Eto'o got his first goal for the Blues, Eden Hazard scored twice and Oscar had a goal. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands for berating the officials as Chelsea fans chanted "Jose Mourinho, he sits where he wants!" Mourinho climbed over the dugout and opted to sit next to a fan who tweeted: "OMG morinho is sitting next to me."

Liverpool (5-1-2) came from behind twice in a 2-2 tie at Newcastle and trails Chelsea on goal difference. Steve Gerrard converted a penalty kick for his 100th Premier League goal, and Daniel Sturridge scored for the Reds, while Yohan Cabaye and Paul Dummett put the hosts ahead.

Manchester City (4-2-1) is another point back in fourth. Sergio Aguero scored twice and David Silva once in a 3-1 victory at West Ham, which got a goal from Ricardo Vaz Te.

Also, Everton and U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard beat Hull 2-1, Stoke was held to a 0-0 tie by West Bromwich Albion, and Swansea defeated last-place Sunderland 4-0 as American forward Jozy Altidore entered for the Black Cats in the 82nd minute.

BERLIN (AP) — Bayern Munich reclaimed the Bundesliga lead, coming from behind to defeat visiting Mainz 4-1 and exend its league unbeaten streak to 34, two shy of the record set by Hamburg from 1982-83.

The visitors went ahead when when a mistake from Jerome Boateng allowed Shawn Parker through to round Manuel Neuer. Thomas Mueller scored twice in the second half, including a penalty kick, and Arjen Robben and Mario Mandzukic (69) had one goal each.

"We always have problems in the first half at home. But I'm sure we'll improve that quickly," Bayern coach Pep Guardiola said. "I can't tell people that they can only come here for the second half."

PARIS (AP) — Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani scored spectacular goals as Paris Saint-Germain (7-0-3) beat Bastia 4-0 and moved ahead of Monaco into the French league lead.

Winger Lucas' cross from the right inadvertently struck Hervin Ongenda, and the ball looped up and behind Ibrahimovic, who showed amazing flexibility to volley it over his shoulder with the back of his heel.

Moments later, he made it 2-0 after 15 minutes when Lucas' cross went in off his shoulder. Cavani replaced Ibrahimovic at halftime and dribbled past three players down the left before slotting in from a tight angle. He added a late penalty kick.

Monaco (6-0-3) can regain the lead on goal difference if it wins by three goals or more Sunday at last-place Sochaux.
