DEARBORN, Michigan ? A 2013 Ford Mustang GT will be transformed into a satin-black, luxury Mustang concept called "High Gear" by a group of women experts as the winner in the first-ever Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Mustang Build Powered by Women.
The project, a collaboration between Ford Motor Company and SEMA, invited the public to view three concepts online and vote for the one they would like to see built by a group of women volunteers.
Voters liked the Mustang High Gear, which takes inspiration from high-end jewelry, couture clothing and architecture.
"High Gear fuses luxury with the concept of power that the Mustang is known for," said Jennifer Seely of Ford, who came up with the winning design.
Highlights include some bling, compliments of rose-gold chrome accents throughout the exterior and interior, notably on the headlights and rims; satin-black body; plush, quilted suede seats; and a leather-wrapped interior. Modifications will be made to the engine, undercarriage, drivetrain and sound system as well.
It will take eight weeks to transform the vehicle. The finished car will debut this fall at the 2012 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, and then will be auctioned on eBay to raise money for the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Inside Line says: A fancy "powered by women" Mustang sounds highfalutin ? and fun.
